Weekly mentoring

Something has shifted and you can't reach them. School says potential in every email, home feels like a negotiation, and the harder you push the further they retreat. You don't need someone to fix your teenager. You need someone they'll actually talk to.

What changes

Where this work takes you

A weekly hour where your teenager is taken seriously by an adult who isn't marking them, grading them or raising them. What families usually notice first is small and real: a calmer house, a plan said out loud, school ringing slightly less. Teenagers report it differently. The most common version is: he actually listens.

This is a good fit if

  • Your teenager is 13 to 18 and has gone quiet, spiky or flat, and you can't tell what's underneath
  • School keeps saying capable but coasting, and every conversation about it at home goes nowhere
  • There's been a wobble: friendships, confidence, motivation, a rough year, and they need a steady adult who isn't a parent or a teacher

It's not the right fit if

  • If your teenager is in crisis or at risk right now, please use the urgent support routes on this site rather than waiting for an enquiry reply
  • If what's needed is therapy, I'll say so plainly in the parent call and point you towards CAMHS, your GP or the school counsellor instead of taking your money

How it unfolds

  1. First, the parent call

Twenty minutes, free. You tell me what's been happening, I ask a few questions, and I give you an honest read on whether mentoring is the right tool. Then we plan how to introduce the idea to your teenager.

  2. Then, their first session

Your teenager comes once, knowing the deal: if it's not for them, they say so and we stop. The choice being real is what makes the work possible, so I never talk anyone into staying.

  3. Then, the rhythm

Same day, same time, every week. We work on what they actually care about, and every few weeks you and I have a short check-in: themes and progress, never transcripts.

Every session includes

  • A free 20-minute parent call before anything is booked
  • Weekly 50-minute sessions at the community space, with walking sessions in the park when everyone agrees
  • A regular parent check-in: themes and progress, never transcripts
  • Honest reviews of whether it's working, and a straight answer if it isn't

He came home from the third session and told us about his day without being asked. I know how small that sounds. It wasn't small.

Tell me a little about your teenager and what's been happening, in whatever words come. A few honest lines are plenty. Then we book a free 20-minute call, I give you a straight answer about whether mentoring is the right tool, and nothing moves forward until your teenager has had their say too.

Asked before booking

What if they just sit there and say nothing?

Then we sit, or we walk, and nobody panics. Silence from a teenager usually means I'm checking whether you're safe, and the check takes as long as it takes. I've never met a teenager who stayed silent once they were sure I wasn't gathering evidence for the adults.

Do you set homework?

No. School has that covered. If your teenager decides they want something to work on between sessions, that's theirs to choose, and I'll help them make it realistic.
